Employment Opportunities

We are delighted to offer employment opportunities to work at our camp during the summer. We offer a fun, challenging atmosphere, where you can get some great experience working with youth, all in the great out-of-doors, in an overnight camp with newly renovated facilities and diverse programming. We provide high-quality training that will get you off on the right foot. We are proud of our extraordinarily high retention rates, as many staff return year after year for the great Mi-Te-Na experience. Counselor in Training Director

Basic Job Description: Counselor in Training Director or CIT Director will work directly with young adults ages 16-18 through a four week training program to develop them into strong camp counselors.

Knowledge, Skills and abilities:

  • A bachelor's degree in Recreation, Education, Psychology or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with 16-18 year olds
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in at an overnight camp

Successful candidates will show expertise in the following core competencies:

  • Values: Demonstrates in word and action the Y's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Relationships: Builds authentic relationships in the service of enhancing individual and team performance.
  • Communication: Listens and expresses self effectively and in a manner that reflects a true understanding of the needs of the audience.
  • Developing Others: Recognizes and acts on the need to continually develop others' abilities to attain the highest level of performance.
  • Decision Making. Integrates logic, intuition and sound judgment to analyze information to identify greatest opportunities, make sound decisions, and solve problems.
  • Functional Expertise: Can lead by example in being a quality camp counselor that relates well to youth in an outdoor setting.

Basic Job Expectations:

  • Create an activity and training schedule in coordination with staff Development Director for CITs.
  • Develop written policies to assure professionalism in all CIT duties
  • Works with Staff Development Director in the off season to recruit and interview potential CIT's
  • Work with CITs to prepare them to become quality staff members at camp.
  • Evaluate potential new counselor in training candidates

Other information: This position is at an all boys overnight camp. Employee is expected to live on site for 9 weeks beginning June 15th 2012. Pay range starts at $2,200 Room and board is included.
